Hat Life - 1 Day....AAAAAAARGGGGG

Yesterday I posted the new hubby hat. He tried it on, it fit, but he said can you wash it. Well, yes but for what reason I don't know. He thought the knitting was a little loose and it would tighten up. HAHAHAHAHA. Little did we know.

I throw it in the washer and agitate. The hat comes out twice as big as it went it. What's going on here? So I throw it in again with some mittens and agitate some more. A few phone calls later I pull it out.....OH NO....it is now a felted hat for a small child. NO HAT FOR HUBBY. I don't think he is meant to have a hand knitted hat from me. Maybe I can add some crocheted flowers and give it to one of the granddaughters. What do you think?

The OWool mittens turned out just great. They fit me perfect now.

Well, on to my next great adventure with knitting!!!

Done and to be Done

Well, the hat is done. Simple, plain and just what my husband ordered and it fits. Sometimes the easiest things are the hardest. Well, the hat is very warm and we are freezing here in the South this week. Yesterday morning the temperature was 27 and it felt like 12. Right now it is 36 but feels like 29....Burrrrr. For us here, that is really, really cold. Our warm blood doesn't adapt well to the Cold.

Anyway, here is the next hat, Thorpe. Now to figure out which bulky yarn to use.

To be Done: I am working on a blanket. It seems I like blankets and hats. Not sure how this got started but that's what I'm into right now. At least until my next obsession starts.

This blanket is made with OWool Organic Worsted in Sky and Lorna's Laces Worsted in Child's Play. It really looks good in person but it's very hard to photograph as it wants to ripple with the camera. Not sure how big it will end up. Just keep knitting rounds until it's the size I want. Of course, all these yarns are from The Yarn Grove.

Toasty Warm Under My Blanket

Several months ago we, at The Yarn Grove created the Under Cover Club. It's purpose was a finished blanket made from organic O-Wool. It was for 8 months with two 12" squares being knit each month. Patterns and yarn were sent to each member every month. The program has finished and there are some very warm knitters out there.

The picture here is my Under Cover blanket. I am going to put a border around the whole thing now. I like it but the border will just make it even better. You can go to the Under Cover Club Blog and see more blankets.

Happy Valentine's Day and pass the popcorn

Happy Valentine's day to everyone. This year, instead of candy I asked for some Dale and Thomas popcorn. There is none better. I received a tin today with chocolate and white chocolate swirl, white chocolate and peanut butter, and chocolate and carmel. The peanut butter is my favorite. YUM....how many pounds might I gain from all of this?

When I was a little girl, my dad popped popcorn all the time. Sometimes he would pop it at night after I had gone to bed. If I was still awake he would bring a handful of popcorn into my room and lay it beside my pillow. That was always the best popcorn ever and I would eat it slowly, one piece at a time (real butter on it too). When I had my 3 girls I did the same for them.

Well, back to knitting the hat I started last week. A Foggy Knitter can't be expected to knit fast.

How Hard Can It Be?

I have made hats, big hats, little hats, felted hats. I even had a hat pattern published. So, my husband wants a knitted hat. I take some Thirteen Mile Bulky in a nice beige color that I think he will like. He likes no embellishments....no pom poms here..hehe. I cast on and knit a few rows. For some reason the hat is too small. Frog it. Start again. Do a few rows in stockinette and then a few garter stitch rows. The rim turns up and it looks entirely too feminine. He will never wear this. Frog again. Ok, so I will make a nice ribbing for the rim of the hat. Knit, knit, knit, take a look. Duh, what a dummy. Knit 2, purl 2, only I ended with a knit 2. That does not make a nice ribbing (I knew that, didn't I?). Frog again.

Ok, I have cast on again with the right number of stitches for size and ribbing. at least 10 rows knitted...so far, so good. Wish me luck that my vanilla husband likes this hat.

PS: I love the picture of my youngest granddaughter Hannah in her eyelash hat!

Voting

I voted in our Georgia primary on Tuesday. The candidate I voted for isn't important but voting is. I have been voting for years and I am always glad I make the effort.

Yikes! No sticks in a month

I just realized that I have not picked up my knitting needles in a month. Being that I have had pneumonia would account for no knitting. I am better now so out come the needles.

This is my first post on this new blog. A little about myself. I am half owner of The Yarn Grove, an internet based yarn shop with natural, organic and hand dyed yarns. We have lots of goodies. I also like to quilt and fool around with other crafts. I love to work with watercolor paints although I don't really see any talent there, just fun for me.

Having 11 grandchildren makes it easy for me to knit just about any size and it will fit someone. My grandchildren range in age from 19 down to 1 year. I have 3 daughters who have produced all these wonderful grandchildren. I also have 1 husband and 1 Jack Russell Terrier, Lucy.

Most blogs seem to be what goes on with a person's daily life. Making it interesting is another story in itself. How does one make an interesting blog? What makes a blog interesting for you? Do you like to see what someone is doing with their knitting? or maybe funny little stories that happen from day to day? This I don't know but am going to just blog what is in my heart and see what happens. If you don't have a blog it seems you are missing something, maybe just a URL to put in the spot designated blog on most sites you sign up for.
